Baseball Recap: Pontotoc Gets the Win

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Pontotoc walked away with it. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Caledonia Cavaliers on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Cavaliers back in March, they had to take a 6-5 loss.

Miller Finn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Pontotoc's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Chayton Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Pontotoc has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-13-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Caledonia, their defeat ended a 16-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 21-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Pontotoc beat the Cavaliers by a score of 5-4 on Saturday.
