Baseball Recap: Spring Mills Triumphs

It's playoff time, and Spring Mills had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Martinsburg Bulldogs on Tuesday. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Spring Mills got a great performance from Aiden Fuller as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. Fuller has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Landon Trumpower, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Spring Mills' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 10-11 when he doesn't). Rylan Swartz was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Spring Mills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

Spring Mills' victory bumped their record up to 15-12. As for Martinsburg, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-11.

Looking ahead, Spring Mills will square off against Morgantown at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mohigans have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. Martinsburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
