Hudson Boyd leads MaxPreps Medium Schools All-American Baseball Teams

By Kevin Askeland Jul 7, 2011, 11:25pm

Portsmouth (N.H.) coach Tim Hopley is the Medium Schools Coach of the Year.

Hudson Boyd of Bishop Verot (Fort Myers, Fla.) is one of a number of talented pitchers in this year's MaxPreps Medium Schools All-American Team, but his ability to lead his team to a state championship, post incredible statistics and land with the Minnesota Twins in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft made him the choice as the MaxPreps Medium Schools National Player of the Year.

Boyd guided the Vikings through the Florida 3A state playoffs, picking up three wins in the postseason and finishing with an overall record of 13-0 with a 0.44 ERA and 131 strikeouts. The Fort Myers News Press tabbed Boyd as its player of the year and the Twins landed Boyd with the No. 55 overall pick in the compensatory round.

MaxPreps All-American Baseball Teams

Portsmouth coach Tim Hopley collects the MaxPreps National Medium School Coach of the Year honors. The Clippers went 20-0 on the season and won the New Hampshire Division II championship with a thrilling come-from-behind 9-6 win over St. Thomas Aquinas.

More impressively, Hopley's team has not lost a game in four years, winning four state titles in the process and breaking the previous national record for previous wins. The Clippers surpassed the mark of 75 wins in a row set by Homer (Mich.) in 2005. Portsmouth finished the season with 83 consecutive wins and will look to add to that mark next season.

The MaxPreps Medium Schools All-American team consists of 60 players, 30 on the first team and 30 on the second, from schools with an enrollment division of between 1,000 and 2,000 students.
