Football Recap: St. Paul Starts Season with Loss on the Road + How To Watch

St. Paul kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They were outmatched by the Bishop Amat Lancers and fell 42-14. While losing is never fun, the Swordsmen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 167th, while the Lancers are ranked 45th).

St. Paul's loss came despite strong showings from Gabriel Castaneda and Kaleb Lauago. Castaneda threw for 194 yards and one touchdown on only 16 passes, while Lauago picked up 84 receiving yards and one TD. The Swordsmen also got help from Gavin Lannon, who showed off his sure hands for 84 receiving yards.

Ryan Salcedo had a dynamite game For Bishop Amat., rushing for 220 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Those 220 rushing yards gave Salcedo a new career-high.

St. Paul has already played their next matchup, a 59-14 defeat against Mission Viejo on the 29th. As for Bishop Amat, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 42-10 loss against Oak Hills on the 28th.
