Basketball Recap: La Costa Canyon Comes Up Short

La Costa Canyon lost against Torrey Pines back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The La Costa Canyon Mavericks fell 44-32 to the Torrey Pines Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 571st, while the Falcons are ranked 208th).

Despite the loss, La Costa Canyon saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Keani Brown dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten steals. Those ten steals set a new season-high mark for Brown.

Torrey Pines' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lily Oliva, who posted ten points in addition to five assists and three steals. Harper Kelley was another key player, putting up three points along with 12 boards and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for La Costa Canyon and nudges their season record down to 12-16. As for Torrey Pines, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.

As of now, neither La Costa Canyon nor Torrey Pines have any future games scheduled.
