Recap: Gilbert Classical Academy Spartans vs. Miami Vandals
The Gilbert Classical Academy Spartans lost against the Miami Vandals back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Gilbert Classical Academy took a 43-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Miami. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Gilbert Classical Academy in their matchups with Miami: they've now lost four in a row.
Miami found their leader in underclassman Tamia Pietila, who dropped a triple-double on 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 13 steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Pietila has scored at least 25% of Miami's points. Savannah Pietila was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight steals.
Gilbert Classical Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Miami, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gilbert Classical Academy and San Tan Charter will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. San Tan Charter is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak. As for Miami, they will head out on the road to face off against Arete Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Arete Prep has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
