Softball Recap: Niwot Cougars vs. Roosevelt Roughriders
Niwot extended their losing streak to nine on Friday, dropping them down to 6-15. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Roosevelt Roughriders. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Roughriders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.
Mandy Roth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, May Herrera was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
As for Roosevelt, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games.
On Roosevelt's side, Kenzie Maddox looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Maddox has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cali Bly was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Molly Vetter was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Niwot will head out to face off against Silver Creek at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raptors have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Roosevelt, they will head out on the road to square off against Northridge at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
