Football Recap: Irvington Falls Short of Union City in the Playoffs + How To Watch

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Irvington can now relate to. They took a 21-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Union City Soaring Eagles on Friday. The Blue Knights were up 14-0 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Union City was led to victory by Naythan Pena and Xavien Rodriguez. Pena rushed for 85 yards and one touchdown, while Rodriguez rushed for 21 yards and one score. Those 21 rushing yards gave Rodriguez a new career-high. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Leonidas Williams, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Irvington's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Union City, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-3.

Irvington does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Union City, they will challenge Bridgewater-Raritan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
