Recap: Woodland Wolves vs. Rio Linda Knights
The Woodland Wolves's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Rio Linda, falling 73-33. Woodland was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-20.
Several Wolves players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madilyn Watkins, who scored ten points. Lucy Lopez was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Rio Linda's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savannah Grant led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 16 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Grant has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Walton, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Woodland dropped their record down to 1-12 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.0 points per game. As for Rio Linda, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Woodland will head out on the road to square off against Pioneer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pioneer is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 15 games. As for Rio Linda, they will be playing at home against Mesa Verde at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mesa Verde will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 893rd, while Rio Linda is ranked 353rd).
