Basketball Game Preview: La Quinta Blackhawks vs. Desert Chapel Eagles

The La Quinta Blackhawks will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on the Desert Chapel Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Quinta's defense has only allowed 29 points per game this season, so Desert Chapel's offense will have their work cut out for them.

La Quinta's tournament run continued when they took on Carter on Saturday. The Blackhawks fell 38-34 to the Lions.

Despite the defeat, La Quinta had strong showings from Sophie Barrow, who posted 11 points in addition to seven steals and five boards, and Vanessa Bazurto, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Barrow is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Thomas, who scored two points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Desert Chapel took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They claimed a resounding 43-9 victory over Joshua Springs Christian. The Eagles pushed the score to 36-9 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lightning had little chance of recovering from.

Desert Chapel's win came from a few key players La Quinta will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Freedom Zazueta, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 19 boards. Another player making a difference was Jayna Pease, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 steals.

La Quinta's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Desert Chapel, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
