Baseball Game Preview: Shelbyville Rams vs. Charleston Trojans

The Shelbyville Rams will head out on the road to take on the Charleston Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Shelbyville is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since March 28, 2024 on Wednesday. They came up short against Mt. Zion, falling 6-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Rams were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Charleston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Neoga.

Quinn Taylor was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched.

At the plate, Charleston saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Russell Applegate, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Applegate hit this season.

Charleston's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Shelbyville, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 8-1.

Shelbyville couldn't quite get it done against Charleston when the teams last played back in March of 2019 as they fell 7-2. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
