Basketball Recap: El Capitan Snags 14th Win in Last 16 Games

After losing to Scripps Ranch the last time they met, El Capitan decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The El Capitan Vaqueros walked away with a 52-39 win over the Scripps Ranch Falcons on Tuesday.

El Capitan got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Keira Heinricy out in front who posted 23 points. That's the most points Heinricy has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Paige Worthem, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 17 points and six boards.

Scripps Ranch's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Clare Valentine, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, and Katrina Purcell, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. The contest was Valentine's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Ree Ree Davis was another key player, putting up seven points.

El Capitan is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. As for Scripps Ranch, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-6.

El Capitan and Scripps Ranch should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. El Capitan (ranked 111th) will meet Helix (ranked 492nd) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. El Capitan is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season. Similarly, Scripps Ranch will face off against Mira Mesa at 6:00 p.m. on Friday up 301 places (217 vs. 518).
