Basketball Recap: Chestnut Ridge Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Naiara Shaffer and Daisy Moyer

Chestnut Ridge lost against Bishop Carroll back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Chestnut Ridge Lions came up short against the Bishop Carroll Huskies, falling 57-32. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 595th, while the Huskies are ranked 121st).

Despite the defeat, Chestnut Ridge had strong showings from Daisy Moyer, who posted nine points in addition to six boards and five blocks, and Naiara Shaffer, who earned nine points. The dominant performance also gave Moyer a new career-high in steals (four). Leah Vent was another key player, putting up nine points.

Leading Bishop Carroll to victory were Ava Pablic and Adelyn Myers. Pablic scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Myers went 5 for 9 en route to 11 points and five steals. Pablic has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Golden, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Chestnut Ridge and nudges their season record down to 1-15. As for Bishop Carroll, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.

Chestnut Ridge will be playing at home against Forest Hills at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Forest Hills will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Chestnut Ridge surely won't give up without a fight. Bishop Carroll has already played their next game (against Penn Cambria), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
