Softball Recap: Mercy's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Mercy came into Saturday's match having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Fremont Tigers on Saturday. Considering the Monarchs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Mercy got a great performance from Alexis Nuefind as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits.

At the plate, Rae Carmichael was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Halley Heavey, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Mercy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mercy's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Fremont, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.

Coming up, Mercy will be taking part in a tournament against Lincoln Southeast at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.45 runs per game on average), something the Monarchs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fremont, they will square off against Norfolk at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.82 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
