Basketball Recap: Sunny Hills Takes a Loss

Sunny Hills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Esperanza Aztecs and fell 66-29. The contest marked the Lancers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Sunny Hills lost, don't look at Ayah Maaytah. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Maaytah continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Sexton, who posted seven points and eight rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Esperanza to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alexa Muller, who had 13 points in addition to eight steals and five assists. The dominant performance gave Muller a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Avery Kame, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 17 points along with five assists and four steals.

Sunny Hills' loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Esperanza, they moved to 14-9 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Sunny Hills is taking a road trip to challenge El Dorado at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Esperanza, they will face off against St. Anthony at 12:30 p.m. on Monday. Esperanza is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season.
