Softball Recap: Heritage Finds Home Field Redemption Against Calhoun

There's no place like home for Heritage, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Calhoun Yellow Jackets on Monday. This was a revenge game for the Generals: when they faced off against the Yellow Jackets last Tuesday, they had to take a 2-1 loss.

Bailee Hollis made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Hollis wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Paisley Collins, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run. That's the most hits Collins has posted since back in August. Another was Brylee Pritchett, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Heritage pushed their record up to 15-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Calhoun, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-14.

Looking ahead, Heritage will face off against Sonoraville at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Generals 3.8, the Phoenix 1.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Calhoun does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
