Recap: Elk River Elks vs. Alexandria Cardinals
The Elk River Elks were the 58-29 winner over the Alexandria Cardinals when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Elk River took a 34-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Alexandria. While losing is never fun, Elk River can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota football rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Alexandria is ranked fifth).
Elk River's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Owen Van drehle, who rushed for 67 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Bunker, who rushed for 142 yards while picking up 7.5 yards per carry.
Alexandria's win on Wednesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chase Thompson, who threw for 274 yards and four touchdowns. Alexandria also got help from Evan Kludt who showed off his sure hands for 114 receiving yards.
Elk River's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.8 points per game. As for Alexandria, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Elk River will be playing in front of their home fans against Duluth East at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Duluth East is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. Alexandria does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
