Soccer Game Preview: Sequoyah vs. Woodstock

The Sequoyah Chiefs will venture away from home to square off against the Woodstock Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams beat their previous opponents by a single goal, so this matchup might be just as contested.

Sequoyah took a three-goal loss the last time they faced off against Riverwood, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Chiefs beat the Raiders by a goal, winning 2-1. Caleb Mcclure had to tread lightly for part of the match after he was hit with a yellow card, but that was the only trouble Sequoyah got from the refs.

Ian Sweazy and Mcclure scored both of Sequoyah's goals, bringing their combined season tally to three goals.

Woodstock hadn't beaten Cherokee on the road since March 13, 2018 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. The Wolverines' defense stepped up to hand the Warriors a 1-0 shutout. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but Woodstock were the better team in the second half.

Woodstock's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-11. As for Sequoyah, they pushed their record up to 5-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Sequoyah beat Woodstock 3-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will the Chiefs repeat their success, or do the Wolverines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
