Basketball Game Preview: Southwest SD Raiders vs. Monte Vista Monarchs

The Southwest SD Raiders are taking a road trip to square off against the Monte Vista Monarchs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Monte Vista took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Southwest SD, who comes in off a win.

Southwest SD took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 58-19 victory over Clairemont. The Raiders' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Southwest SD got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jazlyn Martinez out in front who posted 20 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Martinez has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammie Iribe, who had 14 points and seven steals.

Southwest SD was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Monte Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They received a blow as they fell 56-39 to Mar Vista.

With the victory, Southwest SD broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4. As for Monte Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Everything came up roses for Southwest SD against Monte Vista in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 45-15 win. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Monarchs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
