Baseball Recap: Springfield Takes a Loss

Springfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Litchfield on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Purple Panthers by a score of 7-6. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Senators of the 9-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2025.

Brody Scheffler and Karter Marks stepped up to the plate in a big way. Scheffler got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI, while Marks went 1-for-3 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Jenkins, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.

Springfield's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Litchfield, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield will square off against Dunlap at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Litchfield, they will face off against PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
