Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Carmel Sundevils vs. Chula Vista Spartans

The Mt. Carmel Sundevils will take on the Chula Vista Spartans at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Mt. Carmel will be strutting in after a victory while Chula Vista will be coming in after a loss.

Last Thursday, Mt. Carmel was able to grind out a solid win over Escondido, taking the game 54-45. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Sundevils.

Issa Desmond went supernova for Mt. Carmel, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Desmond a new career-high in points. Kaelyn Nason was another key player, putting up 11 points along with five boards and five steals.

Meanwhile, Chula Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by Otay Ranch 63-27. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1105th, while the Mustangs are ranked 200th).

Chula Vista's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Mt. Carmel, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Everything came up roses for Mt. Carmel against Chula Vista when the teams last played back in December of 2021, as the squad secured a 66-38 victory. Will Mt. Carmel repeat their success, or does Chula Vista have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
