Football Recap: Robertson Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Robertson fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Pojoaque Valley on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 32-31 to the Elks/Elkettes. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Cardinals, who until this matchup were averaging 9.86 points allowed.

Robertson's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Andres Sanchez, who gained 148 total yards and two touchdowns, and Nathan Gonzales, who rushed for 89 yards and one touchdown. Elijah Ortiz got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ortiz, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Joshua Gonzales continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Pojoaque Valley, rushing for 142 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 174 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 passes. The dominant performance also gave Gonzales a new career-high in passer rating (132.2). Pojoaque Valley's leading receiver Joaquin Baca was Gonzales' top target yet again, picking up 162 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Robertson moved to 5-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Pojoaque Valley, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Robertson will challenge rival West Las Vegas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Pojoaque Valley is set to square off against their familiar foe Hope Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
