Basketball Game Preview: Avenal Buccaneers vs. Mendota Aztecs

Avenal is 0-10 against Mendota since February of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Avenal Buccaneers will host the Mendota Aztecs at 6:30 p.m.

Avenal is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Friday. They were dealt a 68-25 loss at the hands of Firebaugh. The Buccaneers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-10.

Meanwhile, Mendota had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 50.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They skirted past the Horned Toads 36-34. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Aztecs have posted since December 9, 2023.

Mendota's win bumped their record up to 17-5. As for Avenal, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.

Avenal was taken down by Mendota 78-15 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Avenal was down 39-13.
