Basketball Game Preview: Orcutt Academy Spartans vs. Arroyo Grande Eagles

The Orcutt Academy Spartans will square off against the Arroyo Grande Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Orcutt Academy will be strutting in after a win while Arroyo Grande will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Friday, Orcutt Academy narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Mission College Prep 41-39. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Royals are ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Elizabeth Johnson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 14 boards. Her evening made it 25 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ashley Barrientos, who went 5 for 12 en route to 15 points.

Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Arroyo Grande's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 51-33 bruising from St. Joseph.

Arroyo Grande's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-4. As for Orcutt Academy, their win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-3.
