Basketball Game Preview: Buena Bulldogs vs. Rio Mesa Spartans

Buena is 10-0 against Rio Mesa since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Buena Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Rio Mesa Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Buena is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.7 points per game this season.

Rio Mesa will be up against a hot Buena squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Buena claimed a resounding 59-30 win over Santa Barbara. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Dons are ranked 833rd), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Karisma Lewis continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8 for 17 on her way to 21 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals. The match was her third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Decierdo, who posted 11 points along with seven boards and five steals.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Rio Mesa's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a hard 50-33 fall against Dos Pueblos.

Buena's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Rio Mesa, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-13.

Everything came up roses for Buena against Rio Mesa in their previous matchup on January 7th, as the squad secured a 64-28 win. Will Buena repeat their success, or does Rio Mesa have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
