Baseball Game Preview: San Ysidro Cougars vs. St. Augustine Saints

The San Ysidro Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the St. Augustine Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Ysidro has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 11.

On Thursday, San Ysidro came up short against Eastlake and fell 9-4.

Carlos Orozco made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Alexavier Abdala also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Meanwhile, St. Augustine narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Coronado 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Saints.

Jonny Haskett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of St. Augustine's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 8-17 when he doesn't).

At the plate, St. Augustine's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mario Vitale, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

San Ysidro's defeat dropped their record down to 7-20. As for St. Augustine, their record now sits at 11-17.

San Ysidro couldn't quite get it done against St. Augustine in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 5-2. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
