Football Recap: Gary Chavez Leads Grants' Defense on Friday + How To Watch

Bernalillo came into Friday's game looking for another win against Grants, but Julian Fernandez wouldn't allow it. The Pirates strolled past the Spartans with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 32-14 with plenty of help from Fernandez, who rushed for 155 yards and four touchdowns. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 101 rushing yards.

Grants' defense made their presence known, laying out Ulisses Castro five times. In that department, Gary Chavez was the leader with two sacks.

Grants' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points over those games. As for Bernalillo, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 6-3.

Coming up, Grants will head out on the road to challenge Bloomfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates will need to watch out since the Bobcats have now posted at least 31 points in their last six contests. As for Bernalillo, they will welcome Taos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
