Preview: El Capitan Vaqueros vs. Monte Vista Monarchs
The El Capitan Vaqueros will head out on the road to face off against the Monte Vista Monarchs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully El Capitan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday.
El Capitan unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak. They received a tough blow as they fell 56-38 to Grossmont. El Capitan has struggled against Grossmont recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, El Capitan had strong showings from Sammy Willis, who scored 11 points along with two steals, and Paige Worthem, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They took a hard 55-37 fall against Helix. While losing is never fun, Monte Vista can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 792nd, while Helix is ranked 369th).
El Capitan's record is now 17-10. As for Monte Vista, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-16 record this season.
El Capitan strolled past Monte Vista in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 54-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for El Capitan since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
