Basketball Game Preview: Canyon del Oro Dorados vs. Mica Mountain Thunderbolts

The Canyon del Oro Dorados will take on the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Canyon del Oro knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Mica Mountain likes a good challenge.

Canyon del Oro saw some tournament action two weeks ago. They blew past Douglas 77-43. The Dorados have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 23 points or more this season.

Canyon del Oro's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mykael Nunez, who posted 12 points in addition to seven boards and three blocks. Nunez has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Peiro, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 17 points.

Meanwhile, Mica Mountain was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 76-70 to Rancho. While losing is never fun, the Thunderbolts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 96th in Arizona, while the Rams are ranked 16th in Nevada).

This is the second loss in a row for Mica Mountain and nudges their season record down to 6-6. As for Canyon del Oro, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.
