Basketball Recap: Monterey Trail Finds Home Court Redemption Against Pyramid Lake

There's no place like home for Monterey Trail, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They took down the Pyramid Lake Lakers 68-53 on Monday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Mustangs' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 166th in California, while the Lakers are ranked 14th in Nevada).

Pyramid Lake's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Lara, who posted 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. That's the most boards Lara has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorena Eben, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 15 points along with five boards and three steals.

Monterey Trail now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Pyramid Lake, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-5.

Monterey Trail will square off against Sheldon at 6:30 p.m. on January 8th. As for Pyramid Lake, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-22 victory against Coleville on the 3rd.
