Softball Recap: Lewis-Palmer Rangers vs. Liberty Lancers
Lewis-Palmer had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 0-2 to make it seven. They came up short against the Liberty Lancers, falling 16-6. The Rangers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lancers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.
Drew Capps was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
As for Liberty, the victory got them back to even at 1-1. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
On Liberty's side, Selah Joiner made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Joiner was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Liberty got a massive performance out of Selena Morales, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave Morales a new career-high. McKenna Newton was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lewis-Palmer will host Rampart at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Liberty, they will be playing at home against Cherry Creek at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
