Basketball Recap: Poway Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Poway can now relate to. They had to suffer through a 74-37 loss at the hands of the Carlsbad Lancers. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 526th, while the Lancers are ranked 211th).

Mya McGowan and Samantha Borja certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. McGowan almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards, while Borja posted nine points and five rebounds. McGowan has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played.

Poway has been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 17 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-20 record this season. The victory was the fifth in a row for Carlsbad, bringing their record for this year to 17-11.

Poway does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Carlsbad, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-39 win against Torrey Pines on the 22nd.
