Softball Recap: Rocky Mountain Lobos vs. Windsor Wizards
Rocky Mountain had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-6 to make it seven. They lost 11-2 to the Windsor Wizards. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lobos of the 12-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.
As for Windsor, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.
For Windsor's part, Shannon Nielsen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Nielsen.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Stephanie Davis, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Olivia Galloway also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Looking ahead, Rocky Mountain will take on Moffat County at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The Lobos will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for Windsor, they will challenge Columbine at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The Wizards' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
