Baseball Recap: St. Catherine's Comes Up Short

St. Catherine had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-16 to make it ten. They lost 12-4 to the St. Francis Mariners. If the Angels were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Mariners when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

St. Catherine's saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Juarez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for St. Francis, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-10. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

On St. Francis' side, the team relied heavily on Jordan Wuerl, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with six stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Wuerl has become a key player for the Mariners: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-9 otherwise. Jaxan Staszak was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. St. Catherine's will head out to square off against Turner at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Angels' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Francis, they will venture away from home to face off against St. John's Northwestern Military Academy on Thursday.
