Basketball Recap: Sultana Takes a Loss

Sultana was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 77-25 loss at the hands of the Burroughs Burros. While losing is never fun, the Sultans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 945th, while the Burros are ranked 346th).

When it comes to explaining why Sultana lost, don't look at Daphne Lopez. Despite the final result, she posted five points.

Burroughs' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jhavmine Ave led the charge by putting up 17 points and seven steals. Ave is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played. Kyla Baird was another key player, going 6 of 12 en route to 18 points.

Sultana's loss dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Burroughs, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.

Sultana will challenge University Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. University Prep's defense has only allowed 29.4 points per game this season, so Sultana's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Burroughs, they will face off against Hesperia at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Burroughs has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 202 points over their last three games.
