Basketball Recap: Beachside Falls Short of Englewood in the Playoffs

Beachside and Englewood squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Beachside had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Englewood Rams by a score of 55-53. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Barracudas came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while the Rams are ranked 626th).

When it comes to explaining why Beachside lost, don't look at Maddox Hunstad. Despite the final result, he posted 27 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Hunstad has posted since back in January of 2024. Sammy Oliver was another key player, putting up seven points.

Englewood was led to victory by Antonio Riddle and Nathaniel Moore. Riddle went 7 of 12 on his way to 18 points and three steals, while Moore dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. Moore is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Thomas Mitchell, who earned a point along with eight assists, six rebounds, and six steals.

Beachside's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Englewood, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-12.

Beachside does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Englewood has already played their next matchup (against St. Augustine), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
