Basketball Recap: Alaisha Mathis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fairfield over Harker

It was a Battle of the Birds when Fairfield duked it out withHarker on Saturday. The Fairfield Falcons fell 64-53 to the Harker Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 366th, while the Eagles are ranked 105th).

Fairfield's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alaisha Mathis, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 15 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Chavez, who posted ten points and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Fairfield and nudges their season record down to 7-5. As for Harker, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

Fairfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 43-23 defeat against Northgate on the 30th. As for Harker, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 56-53 win against Coronado on the 30th.
