Football Game Preview: Abernathy Antelopes vs. New Home Leopards

For the first time this season, Abernathy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After each having a week off, they and the New Home Leopards will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Abernathy is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Friona last Friday. The Antelopes came out on top against the Chieftans by a score of 34-21. The Antelopes haven't had any issues with the Chieftans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, New Home was fully in charge last Friday, breezing past Roscoe 30-3. The result was nothing new for the Leopards, who have now won three matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.

Abernathy now has a winning record of 3-2. As for New Home, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Abernathy didn't have too much breathing room in their game against New Home in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 25-20 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Leopards' Caleb Cook, who threw for 187 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 91 yards on only 11 carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Antelopes to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
