Basketball Recap: Emerson Martin Key Part of a Team Effort in Scorpions Win

Camarillo won the last time they faced Victory Christian Academy and things went their way on Monday too. The Camarillo Scorpions took down the Victory Christian Academy Knights 61-47. Given the Scorpions' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Knights are ranked 233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Camarillo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emerson Martin led the charge by putting up 18 points along with eight boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniela Rocha Betancourt, who posted 20 points.

Camarillo was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Victory Christian Academy only posted two assists.

When it comes to explaining why Victory Christian Academy lost, don't look at Mai'Ana Norita. Despite the final result, she earned 17 points and six rebounds.

Camarillo's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Victory Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-13.

Camarillo wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 70-11 victory against Royal on the 21st. Victory Christian Academy has also already played their next contest, a 45-33 win against Mater Dei Catholic on the 22nd.
