Football Recap: Gerry Diaz Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Big Spring

Fort Stockton never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Big Spring on Friday. They blew past the Steers 42-21. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Steers: they've now won four in a row.

Fort Stockton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gerry Diaz, who threw for 273 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 86 yards. Diaz's passing game has become a key predictor of the Panthers' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Another rusher making a difference was Nick Almendarez, who rushed for 151 yards.

Fort Stockton's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Big Spring, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 3-2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Fort Stockton will challenge Seminole at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
