Volleyball Game Preview: Allatoona Buccaneers vs. Wheeler Wildcats

After both having extra time off, the Allatoona Buccaneers and the Wheeler Wildcats will shake off the rust and duke it out at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Allatoona will be strutting in after a win while Wheeler will be coming in after a defeat.

Allatoona is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Georgia's top teams: North Cobb, who was ranked tenth at the time (Allatoona was ranked seventh). The Buccaneers won by a set and slipped past the Warriors 2-1. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won five in a row.

Allatoona had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The match finished with set scores of 24-26, 25-19, 25-20.

Meanwhile, Wheeler didn't have quite enough to beat Clarkston last Tuesday and fell 2-1. The contest marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

The 2-1 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by two points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 22-23, 15-13.

The win got Allatoona back to even at 4-4. As for Wheeler, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.

Allatoona came up short against Wheeler in their previous meeting back in March, falling 2-0. Can the Buccaneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
