Preview: St. Anthony Saints vs. St. Mary's Academy Belles
The St. Anthony Saints will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the St. Mary's Academy Belles at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Tuesday, St. Anthony faced Bishop Montgomery in a battle between two of the state's top teams. St. Anthony ended up on the wrong side of a tough 76-55 walloping at the hands of Bishop Montgomery. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat St. Anthony has suffered against Bishop Montgomery since February 4, 2020.
Despite their loss, St. Anthony saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ryann Bennett, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and six blocks, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadence Lloyd, who scored 14 points.
St. Mary's Academy posted their biggest win since November 28, 2023 on Tuesday. They blew past Campbell Hall 75-55. The win was just what St. Mary's Academy needed coming off of a 71-39 loss in their prior contest.
St. Anthony's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-7. As for St. Mary's Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.
St. Anthony took their victory against St. Mary's Academy when the teams last played on January 9th by a conclusive 57-36. Does St. Anthony have another victory up their sleeve, or will St. Mary's Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
