Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Braleigh James and Lilly Mcginnis Lead United to Victory

There's no place like home for United, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They strolled past the Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 48-32. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Lions also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

United was led to victory by Lilly McGinnis and Braleigh James. McGinnis went 8 of 17 en route to 18 points along with seven steals and five boards, while James went 6 for 12 on her way to 18 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which McGinnis has scored at least a third of United's points.

United smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Several Blue Jays players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Penelope Reininger, who posted ten points and five rebounds. Reininger is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Illy Darcangelo was another key player, putting up ten points.

United's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Conemaugh Valley, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.

United will have a chance to go back-to-back against Conemaugh Valley: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
