Softball Recap: Gretna East Griffins vs. Standing Bear Grizzlies

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Northwest, Gretna East was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Standing Bear Grizzlies by a score of 7-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Griffins also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

Mya Swartz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Amanda Weis, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rylan Anderson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Gretna East lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post two or more home runs.

Gretna East has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Standing Bear, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-15.

As of now, neither Gretna East nor the Grizzlies have any future games scheduled.
