Baseball Recap: St. Rita Comes Up Short

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times St. Rita and Providence Catholic have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Saturday. The Mustangs fell just short of the Celtics by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Celtics this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-8 on Thursday.

Colin Quinn made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Angel Castro, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

St. Rita's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-18. As for Providence Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-11 record this season.

St. Rita will venture away from home to take on Marian Catholic at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.94 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Providence Catholic, they will take on Hinsdale Central in a tournament on Friday.
