Basketball Recap: Nogales Comes Up Short

Nogales lost against Sierra Vista on January 14th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Nogales Nobles were dealt a 60-30 defeat at the hands of the Sierra Vista Dons. While losing is never fun, the Nobles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 955th, while the Dons are ranked 455th).

Sierra Vista was led to victory by Cailei Buna and Zaira Eulloque. Buna almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine assists, while Eulloque almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Eulloque is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. Kristine Lozano was another key player, putting up six points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks.

Nogales' loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-13. As for Sierra Vista, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nogales has already played their next match (against Azusa), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Sierra Vista will head out to take on Baldwin Park at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Sierra Vista is facing Baldwin Park at the right time seeing as Baldwin Park is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
