Basketball Recap: Mainland Starts Season with Win Against Bayside

Mainland took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Wednesday. They blew past the Bayside Bears 90-39. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Buccaneers had established a 39-point advantage.

Kade Manley was nothing short of spectacular: he shot 80% from the field en route to 23 points along with seven assists and seven steals. The game was his fourth in a row with at least 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Canyon Powers, who went 8-for-13 to rack up 16 points and three steals.

Several Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mason Derrickson, who shot 67% from the field on his way to 14 points. That was a full 35.9% of Bayside's points, marking the third time in a row Derrickson has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kody Grodecky, who scored 11 points.

Bayside is on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Mainland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 71-31 victory against Ocoee on the 26th. As for Bayside, they have also already played their next contest, a 78-62 loss against Vero Beach on the 22nd.
