Football Recap: Silverado's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Silverado dropped to 4-4 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell 24-17 to the Barstow Aztecs. If the Hawks were looking for revenge after losing 35-28 to the Aztecs when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Silverado still got an impressive performance from Jayden Pauling, who picked up 38 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 36 yards.

Even if they lost, Silverado's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up 0.5 apiece ( Melvin Kanyike, Taron Thompson, Aumaurieon Bailey, and Nheeko White also recorded half a sack). White was another major factor on D, picking up 0.5 sacks, making 17 total tackles (1.0 for loss), and defending one pass.

As for Barstow, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-3. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.0 points on average over those games.

It was another big night for Nicholas Gaoa, who rushed for 262 yards and a pair of scores. He also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Barstow is 3-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Aloalii (Alo) Lealofi did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 109 receiving yards.

Looking ahead, Silverado will take on Victor Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Hawks' defense better be ready for this one: the Jackrabbits have averaged an impressive 39.8 points per game this season. As for Barstow, they will face off against Granite Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Aztecs will be up against the Cougars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
