Softball Game Preview: Hiram Hornets vs. Southeast Whitfield County Raiders

The Hiram Hornets will square off against the Southeast Whitfield County Raiders at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hiram has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Hiram is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight games on Friday. They lost 16-8 to Woodland. That's two games in a row now that the Hornets have lost by exactly eight runs.

Lily Martinez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Dannielyn Smith was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Woodland hit Southeast Whitfield County with a seven-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Raiders took a 14-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats.

Southeast Whitfield County also got a good showing from Summer Maddron, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, Maddron gave up only five hits, the fewest she's had since back in August.

At the plate, Southeast Whitfield County got a big performance out of Lydia Kidd, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Piper Shoemake, who went 1-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Southeast Whitfield County's loss dropped their record down to 8-18. As for Hiram, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-19.
