Basketball Recap: Yuba City Takes a Loss

Yuba City managed to keep up with River Valley until halftime on Monday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Yuba City Honkers came up short against the River Valley Falcons, falling 48-26. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Honkers of the 36-23 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Cythlali Cortez was Yuba City's leading scorer, having posted eight points. Allie Campbell held things down on the boards with eight rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead River Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gurleen Nijjar, who posted 23 points and five boards. Those 23 points gave Nijjar a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Avneeth Gill, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Yuba City is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11. As for River Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Del Campo the next time they take the court. Yuba City will host Del Campo at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while River Valley will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
